NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — Museums were given the go ahead to begin reopening on Monday across New York State and one attraction that immediately started welcoming back visitors was the Museum of Illusions in Manhattan.
Visitors can take a break from reality by stepping into the world of illusions in the Chelsea section of the borough.
While some things have been taken away, the space is still open to showcase optical illusions, holograms, anti-gravity room and much more – all with everyone’s safety in mind.
“We’re doing a guided number system through our museum space, through our exhibits,” explains museum manager Kevin Osorio. “So you know exactly where to go while other museum goers are in the space with you.”
The museum recommends purchasing tickets in advance on their website as visitors only have 45 minutes to see the entire space and there are only 30 visitors allowed in at a time – since the space is operating at 25% capacity.
Puzzles that were normally left out for visitors have been taken away, but the museum’s unique photo opportunities are still present.
Despite the limitations, visitors who showed up on Monday were happy to have another place to go for fun.
“It’s calm, it’s very soothing. It feels good, it feels more free, but you know, you still have to take the proper precaution so it can be safe,” said Michael, who visited the museum on Monday with his girlfriend.
The museum says staff is checked for COVID-19 symptoms daily and all staff and guest must wear face masks while inside the building.
Temperature is checked at the door and anyone with a fever will be denied entry.
